Around the Agora on Aeolis street where many
Athenians do their clothes shopping there are
tables and stands set up where people demonstrate
their products. This man has a hand-held
contraption that scoops out the inside of a
zuchinni for making stuffed kolokithia. I bought a
machine that makes mini-spinach pies and for my
mom I got a machine that makes stuffed grape
leaves. She never used it. |
This man is demonstrating a floor cleaner. If it
works this good on the streets of Athens imagine
what it could do in your kitchen. These guys do
such a great job I don't see why the mayor does
not hire them to do the entire city instead of the
same section over and over again. |
Sometimes if you stay in one place the agora
comes to you, like this woman who sells her
oregano and mountain sage, going from table to
table in the area restaurants. |
Like any big city there are beggars, some in very
sad condition but some, so completely charming you
want to take them home to meet your family |
In nearby Psiri you can see the most
aesthetically pleasing butcher shop in the
world |
Or visit Kosta at his Naxos food shop where he
sells his special Naxos miracle cheese that will
keep you healthy and survive in your refridgerator
for centuries and still be usable. You can visit
him at
here |
If it is a cold and damp day nothing warms you up
more than a nice cup of hot tselepi made from iris
root and supposedly very good for you. |
And if you are hungry, besides all the
restaurants, souvlaki shops, and cheese-pie shops,
there are guys selling traditional sweets and
cakes. |
