The Meat Market
This is the heart and soul of the Agora. Divided
in various sections like beef, lamb, chicken and unname-ables the meat
market is not the place for the weak stomached. But if you can handle the
pictures on this page then you can handle a visit there. If you can't handle
this page avert your eyes and click here

Yiou can count on the meat being fresh and
clean in the meat market. There is a lot of competition. Some of the merchants
have been in the agora for generations. |
A quiet time in the meat market. Usually it
is packed but if you go after 1pm it can be like this. |
This is an erie picture. Looks like some kind
of warning to pigs |
This is not meant as a humiliation but to
let the buyer know that it is local (dopio) and fresh (fresca) |
It is not often that you find a boars head
but on one of the streets they have it along with pheasants and other wild
game |
Rabbits and chicken seem to go together and
you get to keep the tail and the lucky feet |
These are the unmentionables. They also have
a whole section of pigs-feet in the fish market. I always wondered why.
Were the pigs feet kicked out of the meat market and exiled to the fish? |
Now that I have gotten your appetite up you
will be pleased to know that there are 3 restaurants in the meat market,
all of them great, though not exactly tourist-fare. They are open 24 hours
a day though. |
